BC Electric Car Rebates

Apply for a BC Electric Car and Charger Rebate to Maximize Savings

One major reason why many Canadians have made the switch from gas- to electric-powered vehicles is the savings potential. Charging an electric vehicle generally costs less than filling up at the pump, and when you pair EV ownership with a home EV charger the savings can be truly tremendous. So how can drivers enjoy even more savings? We recommend taking advantage of a BC electric car or charger rebate!

At TCA Electric, we’ve helped pave the way for BC’s electric car revolution, installing EV charging stations for many homes, public spaces, and workplaces. Of course, to take advantage of these chargers, residents first have to make the switch to an electric vehicle. Luckily, here in BC, electric car rebate options abound! Let’s take a look at what’s available.

BC Electric Car Rebate Offerings

There are three main ways for BC drivers to take advantage of electric car rebate options and incentives. Those are through the Go Electric Passenger Vehicle Rebate, the BC SCRAP-IT Program, and the federal iZEV Program.

BC Go Electric

BC offers substantial incentives for making the switch from gas- to electric-powered vehicles. The main electric car rebate available in BC is through CleanBC’s Go Electric Passenger Vehicle Rebate, which provides up to $4,000 off the purchase price of new battery electric passenger vehicles.

SCRAP-IT Program

Some drivers considering the switch to electric vehicles may be doing so to move on from older, higher-emission gas-powered vehicles. If this is the case, the SCRAP-IT Program offers an incentive of $400–$500 for making the switch to either a hybrid or fully electric vehicle.

iZEV Program

Finally, there is also an electric car rebate offered at the federal level that BC residents can take advantage of: the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) Program. Available through March 2025 (or until funding runs out), this program provides up to $5,000 in incentives for the purchase of many types of electric vehicles.

Combine for Even More Savings!

With such robust incentives on offer, readers may be wondering if they must choose which will benefit them the most. Luckily, you don’t have to make a choice! Each of these rebates can be applied independent of one another. That means, if you apply and qualify for all three, you could be able to apply three different rebates to your purchase of an electric vehicle to kickstart your savings.

Of course, incentives for electric vehicle owners don’t end there. As we’ve covered multiple times on our blog here at TCA Electric, EV charging stations are also heavily incentivized, whether you’re the owner of a single-family home, a multi-family property, or a business with company vehicles. Rebates are available for a wide range of chargers, further improving the cost savings of making the switch from gas to electric.

Will BC Increase EV Rebate?

With so many rebates available for electric vehicles and charging stations, it’s hard to imagine a better time to buy than right now. EV rebates have already been expanded to cover more affordable options for buyers, and some programs have expiration dates or a set amount of funding.

While it’s certainly possible that these dates and funding pools could be expanded in the future, it’s probably wisest to take advantage of available rebates while you can. After all, even if rebates increase slightly, the cost savings of no longer purchasing gas for your vehicle will be well worth it in the long run.
