Rebates for Multifamily EV Chargers Now Available!

One benefit that electric vehicles have long enjoyed is the host of rebates and incentives available for those looking to install EV chargers. Whether from local, provincial, and federal governmental authorities or companies like BC Hydro, there are many resources that have long provided benefits for EV chargers.


BC Hydro
Recently, the BC Hydro EV charger rebate program was expanded to include incentives for multifamily EV chargers. This includes incentives for creating an EV charger installation plan as well as rebates for the EV chargers themselves. In addition, BC Hydro added rebates that help cover electrical upgrades done to make multifamily residential buildings EV ready. While electrical upgrades such as a service upgrade or rewiring may not be necessary before installing EV chargers, these rebates help to greatly alleviate the cost if such upgrades are needed.


The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) from NRCAN is intended to facilitate greater vehicle ownership over the next couple of decades. Currently, there is $280 million set aside to be used for EV charger rebates, and that money will be available until 2024. In this stage of the program, NRCAN is focusing on commercial and multi-unit residential EV charging, with an application deadline set for June 22, 2021. Learn more today!


Plug In BC
Plug In BC (part of the CleanBC Go Electric Program) aims to encourage EV adoption through rebates for EV chargers. Rebates range “from up to $20,000 per <50 kW DCFC, to $130,000 per >100 kW DCFC (for Indigenous communities). Applications are reviewed on a 2-month cycle, with the next deadline set for August 27th. The administrator for the account representing strata will have an account set up for them upon installation. EV owners can sign up by scanning the QR code on the charger and downloading the app.

Customers are billed through an app, on a rate set by the building owner or manager. The money is then deposited directly into an account specified by management.

A booster may need to be installed in parkade structures if data or Wi-Fi is not reliably available.

Customers will not get billed for the time that the charger was inactive due to a power outage, and they will receive a warning through the app. When power returns, the charger picks up right where it left off.
