The client
We worked once more with Fino Projects Corporation for this project. A local contracting and construction management company, Fino is headquartered right here in North Vancouver. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Fino on many high-end residential projects over the last six years, from renovations to custom homes. So, when they needed a North Vancouver electrician to bring a secondary suite up to code, the TCA Electric team was at the top of their list.
The project
The main goals for this project were to fully wire and light a secondary suite and to perform a service upgrade to accommodate a vehicle charging station being added to the home. This was a residential project, and it required a full range of electrical skills to complete. Our professional electricians were needed to provide the wiring for a complete basement suite renovation, to install custom lighting, to upgrade the electrical service for the home, and to install a backup generator. Luckily, our team at TCA Electric has over 60 years of collective experience, so we were up to the task!
The challenges
This project may have been suite, but it wasn’t without its challenges. Chief among these was ensuring that the wiring measured up to the District of North Vancouver’s standards for a secondary suite. As an added complicating factor, one wall of the suite needed to be soundproofed, requiring us to research ways to soundproof our device boxes while still fitting them into the limited space available. As experienced North Vancouver electricians, we were well-prepared to meet all of these needs.
The result
Balancing these requirements was tricky, but our TCA team came through! Our electricians consulted directly with the District of North Vancouver building department to ensure all of the secondary suite requirements would be met. We sought out and pulled each of the necessary permits, obtaining a residential electrical permit and a service upgrade permit for the project. We also coordinated with BC Hydro to provide a service upgrade from 200 to 400 amps. The service upgrade increased the power available for the house in order to handle the new suite and a vehicle charging station. Finally, we installed new lighting fixtures and a backup generator for the home. All in all, the suite life project was a joy to work on, as our talented electricians at TCA got to showcase their versatility!
